More Women Compete in IronMan 2019

500 more women are expected to receive invitation to race in the 2019 Championship of IronMan 70.3. This was according to Women for Tri when they made the announcement in their portal.


The additional number will be drawn from 20 races selected for the purpose from which 25 slots in each race will be awarded to next qualified women by age group proportion. The selected IronMan 70.3 identified races were in Nice, Atlantic City,

Bahrain - Middle East Championship, Taupo, Indian Wells, South Africa, Dubai, Geelong, Colombo, Oman, Puerto Rico, Texas, Peru, Gulf Coast, Pays D’Aix, Barcelona, Victoria, Les Sables d’Olonne, Wisconsin and Staffordshire.


The additional slots for top finishing female athletes were geared towards welcoming and empowering new female athletes as part of the sport’s continued growth in high-level competition through Women for Tri, according to the announcement.“The athletes that represent the Women For Tri team will help continue to grow the sport,” the announcement quoted Andrew Messick, President and Chief Executive of IronMan.


 “With the introduction of our two-day world championship format, there is an opportunity for more high achieving female triathletes to earn a spot to the IronMan 70.3 World Championship,” according to Messick in the same announcement.


The 2019 IRONMAN® 70.3® World Championship takes place in Nice, France on September 7-8, 2019.
